There is a story here too.
Everything was going so well, CEE paid $5.51 dividend per share in 2007.
I was looking forward to the dividends that I'd receive in January 2008, more than $10, wow !!
I had called my brokerage account (bank owned) in Oct. and Nov. 2007 to make sure I'd receive dividends as cash for other position I had and to have my account set up as cash dividend only. They assured me they did it and the dividends were to be paid in cash.
And in January 2008 the blow: I receive 35 shares.
I had written down the times and dates when I spoke with 2 different people that assured me about the cash dividend 'flag' set on my account, so when I frantically called the bank and told them about that, they tried to explain to me that I should have called before regarding the CEE dividends. I said I did and my request was for all positions. They said it did not work like that and I had to request it specifically for each position. I said the customer service representatives had told me the setting would apply to all of the positions. They responded the people I had talked to before did not know !?! In the end they suggested I sold the 35 shares, which at that time wasn't a good idea as I'd get around $50 / share so less than the cash dividends I was supposed to receive, not to mention that I considered myself a buy and hold investor so I did not like selling at all. The stock plummeted in a few months to around $14.00, but this is another story.
They agreed to give me a few commission free trades that didn't cover the loss, and I felt I could not get full reparation so I 'closed the case' but I did not forget it and the next year I transferred everything to other institution. The institution was RBC.
To cut a long story short I'd just sold the extra 35 shares with around $40 so less than the $50 I could have had 3 years earlier but i could not stand that 'appendage' any more as it was a stark reminder of what had happened not to mention that inwardly I hope this would push the stock higher. Usually after I sell this is what happens but it seems they figured out of my strategy and partial selling does not count any more. Have to sell everything to make the stock go higher.
